The 2011 NHL Playoffs will mark the 3rd annual NHL Beard-A-Thon, raising money for over 12 charitable foundations. Participants of the NHL Beard-A-Thonwill grow and maintain a playoff beard during their team’s playoff run. Fans unwilling or unable to grow a beard will be able to pledge for their favorite players.
Last years playoffs saw over $300,000 raised for NHL team charities, and over 6,000 hockey fans across the nation participated in this hockey tradition to raise money for local causes.
Last season the Pittsburgh Penguins led all NHL teams by raising $91,000 for the Mario Lemieux Foundation. The reining Stanley Cup champions and their fans raised $41,000 for Chicago Blackhawks charities, and Washington Capitals fans raised $38,000 for Capitals charities.
Over the past 2 seasons NHL fans have raised over $600,000 for local charities and continue to show their loyalty and passion not only for the NHL but their charitable causes.
