This year will mark the third consecutive year that Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins will be hosting his Justin Morneau’s Casino Night. The Morneaus and the Arthritis Foundation have teamed up for the past three years to help raise money and create awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s second leading cause of disability. However, that is not the only thing he is trying to familiarize everybody with about the disease.
One of the main reasons why Morneau started this event and teamed up with the Arthritis Foundation was because his niece, Madelyn, who was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis as the young age of 2. When him and his wife Krista became aware of what this disability can do and who it can affect, he realized exactly what it was he had to do as a sports icon and exactly how he could give back and help raise awareness.
The event this year will feature hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a brand new wine wall, casino games (no prizes awarded for games played), both silent and live auctions that feature signed memorabilia and tickets to sporting events, food, a photo booth, a chance to mingle with all of your local athletes and even the opportunity to take pictures with Justin Morneau.
Last year, more than 450 people were able to raise more than $140,000 for the Arthritis Foundation, a 50 per cent increase from the year before. This year the Morneaus and the Arthritis Foundation are hoping to make the event even more successful and can hopefully beat last year’s increase.
